Anthropic will brief leading finance ministries and central banks on cyber vulnerabilities discovered by its Claude Mythos Preview model after a request from Andrew Bailey, governor of the Bank of England and chair of the Financial Stability Board. The company says Mythos identified thousands of severe security flaws across major operating systems and browsers, a finding that could have implications for the resilience of financial and digital infrastructure.
Anthropic has told regulators that roughly 40 organizations currently have access to the Mythos Preview, including Amazon, Microsoft and JPMorgan Chase. The firm emphasised the scale of the discoveries — thousands of severe bugs-and is moving to share its findings directly with financial authorities rather than releasing them more broadly at this stage. The White House has asked Anthropic not to distribute the model more widely, signalling U.S. government concern about potential downstream risks. That request sits alongside broader warnings from international institutions about the systemic impact of advanced AI tools.
The International Monetary Fund has warned AI could trigger a "macro‑financial shock," and the Financial Stability Board is preparing a report at Bailey's request that is due next month. Regulators now face the task of assessing whether the vulnerabilities Mythos surfaced could amplify risks across banks, cloud providers and the services that depend on them.
