In the updated version of the Canva AI assistant, users can generate editable designs simply by describing their ideas. Using artificial intelligence, the assistant helps select the necessary tools and offers various options, simplifying the design process. The layered structure of the design provides users with flexibility in customizing the final product.
The update is part of Canva's efforts to make the AI assistant the center of users' workflows and expand its functionality, including image generation and website creation. Canva is not the only player in this field; companies like Adobe and Figma are also integrating AI assistants into their applications, highlighting the overall trend of automating content creation.
Cliff Obrecht, co-founder and COO of Canva, emphasized the importance of completing editing and publishing within the service. "Small businesses often start and end their day in Canva," he added, highlighting the integration with platforms like Anthropic and OpenAI, which allows users to perform more complex tasks.
The company noted significant revenue growth from small teams and individual users, while the corporate sector showed a 100% increase compared to last year. According to PitchBook, Canva's current valuation is $42 billion, and it is reportedly planning an initial public offering next year.
As part of the update, Canva is also adding integrations with services like Slack, Gmail, and Zoom, allowing the assistant to take into account context based on emails and meeting data. Additionally, Canva has improved the efficiency of its AI tools: the Lucid Origin image generation model is now 5 times faster and 30 times cheaper, while converting images to video has become 7 times faster and 17 times cheaper.
