At the 'Build to Lead' symposium held by Meta, the future of artificial intelligence in Europe and the importance of innovation for economic resilience were discussed.
On March 24, 2026, Meta held the 'Build to Lead: The Brussels AI Symposium', which brought together leading figures from politics and business, including the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola and the U.S. Ambassador to the EU Andrew Pasderek. The focus was on how Europe can effectively leverage the opportunities presented by artificial intelligence.
Meta's Vice President for Public Policy in Europe, Markus Reinisch, emphasized that innovation is the key to the region's economic resilience. He noted that AI has the potential to significantly boost productivity and drive economic growth. The symposium also featured companies such as EssilorLuxottica and Circus Group, which have an influence on the development of technologies in Europe.
However, despite the existing advantages, Europe faces a serious competitive threat from the U.S. and China, both striving to take the lead in artificial intelligence. Reinisch pointed out the instability of Europe's current position on the global stage, noting that countries like India and those in the Middle East are actively developing their technologies and integrating them into everyday life.
In his speech, Reinisch also addressed issues of digital sovereignty and the need to simplify the existing regulatory framework. In his view, Europe is not only lagging technologically but also needs to focus on creating more flexible conditions for AI development, rather than attempting to fully replicate technologies on its own.
