Google debuts Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini Omni at I/O 2026 with immediate developer and creator access

At I/O 2026 on May 20, 2026, Google announced 100 product updates and began rolling out Gemini 3.5 Flash — a low‑latency frontier model — and Gemini Omni, a multimodal video and media generator, offering immediate access for builders, subscribers and creators.

At I/O 2026 (May 20, 2026) Google announced a slate of 100 updates and began immediate rollouts of two major AI offerings — Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini Omni-positioning them as tools that cut latency and cost for complex agentic tasks and lower barriers to high‑quality media creation. Gemini 3.5 Flash is available today through Google Antigravity, the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and Android Studio. Google describes 3.5 Flash as a Flash‑series model that pairs frontier‑level intelligence with low latency for development workflows. The company also said a more capable Gemini 3.5 Pro is already in internal use and is scheduled for public rollout next month.

Google published benchmark results to quantify 3.5 Flash’s gains: it outperforms Gemini 3.1 Pro on Terminal — Bench 2.1 (76.2%), records 1656 Elo on GDPval — AA, and scores 83.6% on MCP Atlas. The release places 3.5 Flash in the top‑right quadrant of the Artificial Analysis index and asserts the model delivers frontier intelligence at markedly lower latency and, for long‑horizon agentic tasks, often at less than half the cost of other frontier models.

Gemini Omni targets multimodal generation beginning with video, blending Gemini’s multimodal reasoning with generative media capabilities and enhanced physical‑world understanding — including concepts such as gravity, kinetic energy and fluid dynamics — to create more realistic scenes. Videos produced with Omni carry an imperceptible SynthID watermark for provenance and can be verified via the Gemini app, Gemini in Chrome and Search.

Rollout details emphasize immediate creator access: Gemini Omni Flash is rolling out now to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers globally through the Gemini app and Google Flow. Omni features are also available today at no cost to users 18+ in YouTube Shorts Remix and the YouTube Create app. Google highlighted conversational editing workflows that let creators apply cinematic zooms, change backgrounds, use one‑click templates, upload camera‑roll content and build custom AI avatars.

For developers and enterprises, Google framed these releases as productivity accelerants: 3.5 Flash is positioned for planning, building and iterating on applications, maintaining codebases and preparing documents, while Omni reduces the technical and cost barriers to video creation and remixing. The company noted staged expansions for inputs — initially supporting only voice references for audio and adding more audio input types over time.
