Meta raises prices on Quest 3 and Quest 3S due to a shortage of RAM.

Starting April 19, the prices for Meta Quest 3S and Quest 3 virtual headsets will increase by $50 to $100 due to rising memory chip costs.

Meta has announced a price increase for its Quest 3 and Quest 3S virtual headsets due to the rising costs of RAM chips. Starting April 19, the price of the Quest 3S model (128 GB) will rise by $50 to $349.99, while the 256 GB version will cost $449.99. Meanwhile, the base model Quest 3 will increase by $100 to $599.99.

Meta's blog states that the decision to raise prices is related to a sharp increase in the costs of producing high-performance virtual reality equipment. A shortage of components, especially memory chips, negatively affects many segments of consumer electronics, including VR technologies. To ensure the necessary level of quality, the company believes that the price increase is justified.

Prices for refurbished Meta Quest devices will also increase, but accessories for the headsets will retain their previous prices. Meta is not the only company forced to respond to rising component prices; similar decisions have already been made by tech giants such as Samsung, Microsoft, and Sony.

This price increase could significantly impact the virtual reality market, limiting the accessibility of technologies for a wider audience. Additionally, such changes may lead to a reassessment of pricing policies and competitive strategies by other VR equipment manufacturers.
