In recent years, such solutions have been rapidly gaining popularity, with new products appearing almost weekly. Nothing's development enters a market where applications like Wispr Flow, SuperWhisper, Willow, and Monolouge are already actively competing. The main feature of the new product is its ability to function over any running applications, converting the user's spoken language into a formatted text format.
The creation of such a tool is driven by the desire to overcome the physical limitations of manual input on mobile devices. According to statistical data, the average person types about thirty-six words per minute on a smartphone keyboard, while the speed of spoken language can exceed this figure by four times. Essential Voice aims to close this gap by offering instant conversion of spoken phrases into comprehensible text. To invoke the function, users can press a dedicated physical Essential key on devices where it is structurally provided, or activate the dictation process directly through the smartphone's virtual keyboard.
The technical implementation of Essential Voice includes a wide range of customizable options designed to radically increase productivity in daily text entry. One of the key innovations is the creation of personalized voice macros. The system allows specific words, links, text templates, and frequently repeated phrases to be assigned to short voice commands. As an example, the developers cite the ability to say a short phrase indicating a home address, after which the artificial intelligence will automatically insert the full version of the saved data into the text field.
An additional advantage of Nothing's new tool is its built-in function for real-time direct text translation from one language to another. At the time of the official launch, the developers announced support for over one hundred different languages. The company also shared plans for further system development: future updates will include customizable text styling depending on the application used. This means that the artificial intelligence will be able to automatically adapt the tone of the edited message to a specific software category — for example, applying a formal style in work tools and a more relaxed format in personal messaging applications.
Essential Voice integration is occurring in stages across the company's existing smartphone lineup. Currently, the new feature is already available to owners of Phone (3) devices. The rollout of the update for the Phone (4a) Pro version is scheduled for the end of the current month, and support for the base Phone (4a) model is expected next month. Experts note that Nothing has become one of the first companies to offer deep system integration of a dictation tool. Nevertheless, given the recent release of a standalone dictation application by Google corporation, more similar solutions from other manufacturers are expected to appear on the mobile device market in the future.
