OpenAI GPT-5.5 on Microsoft Foundry platform: Launch of advanced enterprise-level AI agents

Microsoft Corporation announced the availability of the latest flagship OpenAI GPT-5.5 language model on the Microsoft Foundry platform. This release continues the evolution of the lineup, in which the base GPT-5 version first combined logical reasoning and high speed into a unified system, and the subsequent GPT-5.4 version offered improved multi-step logic and early agent functionalities for enterprise use. The new generation includes two versions: the standard GPT-5.5 and the premium GPT-5.5 Pro, which is designed to handle the most resource-intensive corporate tasks requiring maximum depth of analysis.

A key innovation of GPT-5.5 is its significantly improved ability to autonomously write code and manage computer interfaces. The system can now perform complex engineering tasks from start to finish, confidently retaining the architectural context of large software systems in memory. When non-obvious failures occur, the model can diagnose their root cause at an architectural level and proactively calculate how a proposed fix will affect other parts of the codebase. Furthermore, GPT-5.5 autonomously anticipates the need for subsequent testing and verification, without requiring additional human instructions.

The autonomous task execution capabilities of the new model extend far beyond programming, covering the full spectrum of professional activities. GPT-5.5 can create ready-to-use documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. In scenarios requiring in-depth research, the artificial intelligence acts as an active co-author: it independently refines drafts over several iterations, conducts stress testing of analytical conclusions, proposes various approaches to problem-solving, and synthesizes information from multiple documents, databases, and source code. The system can process extensive text archives and maintain a coherent line of reasoning throughout long, multi-session interaction histories.

However, access to the advanced model is only the first step, as the main challenge for businesses remains not creating individual agents, but managing thousands of such entities in a production environment. To address this challenge, Microsoft offers Foundry Agent Service โ€“ a platform infrastructure that ensures real isolation, strict identification, and management at the level of corporate policies. Developers can create declarative workflows using YAML or various development environments, including Microsoft Agent Framework, GitHub Copilot SDK, LangGraph, Claude Agent SDK, and OpenAI Agents SDK.

The widespread adoption of such agent systems also relies on a revised economic model and computational optimization. The GPT-5.5 architecture features increased token usage efficiency, which allows for higher quality results with fewer attempts, thereby reducing latency and financial costs during large-scale deployment. Pricing for the base GPT-5.5 model is $5 per million input tokens, $0.50 for cached input data, and $30 per million output tokens. The premium GPT-5.5 Pro version will cost $30 per million input tokens, $3 for cached input, and $180 per million output tokens.
