PwC has officially launched its AI-driven annotation (AIDA) solution, developed on Amazon Web Services (AWS), designed to dramatically expedite the arduous task of extracting critical insights from complex legal and business contracts. This innovative solution transforms large volumes of unstructured document data into structured, searchable information, thereby enhancing accessibility to essential contract details across various systems.
The development addresses the ongoing difficulties faced by legal, compliance, and procurement teams in managing the escalating volume and complexity of agreements. Conventional methods, such as keyword searches or basic pattern recognition within contract management systems, often prove insufficient for consistent and scalable insight generation.
At its core, AIDA leverages large language models (LLMs) combined with automated extraction workflows to interpret intricate legal language and derive insights based on predefined rules. This capability allows users to pose natural language questions regarding individual contracts or across entire projects involving multiple documents. The solution then provides context — specific answers, crucially supported by linked citations back to the source text, significantly reducing the manual effort typically involved in searching and interpreting contract clauses. The platform demonstrates three core capabilities: template — based extraction, document — level chat, and global chat across documents, all designed to streamline review processes.
The practical impact of AIDA is already notable, with customer implementations showing a substantial reduction in manual contract review time by up to 90%. This acceleration enables teams to retrieve crucial information more swiftly and significantly shortens overall review cycles. AIDA supports scalable contract analysis across a diverse range of industries and competencies, including Media & Entertainment (M&E) and Real Estate, as well as critical functions like Procurement, Legal, and Compliance. For instance, within the M&E sector, AIDA assists content producers and distributors in unlocking the full value of their intellectual property.
Beyond its core analytical engine, AIDA provides a comprehensive suite of features designed to enhance contract management. Key functionalities include Customized Data Extraction, which offers scalable data extraction driven by user-defined rules and custom templates. This allows for tailored extraction fields and logic per document, enabling the analysis of thousands of contracts in parallel with consistent accuracy. Another critical feature is Natural Language Q&A Across Documents, which empowers users to ask questions and receive context — specific responses, complete with linked citations to the original source documents.
The robust architecture underpinning AIDA leverages a combination of AWS cloud — native and integrated services, meticulously designed to securely process, analyze, and deliver insights from complex contracts at scale while maintaining high levels of security, traceability, and performance. This includes an edge security layer that ensures authenticated access and controlled routing for user traffic. Requests are rigorously filtered for threats by AWS WAF, then routed through a Network Load Balancer to a reverse proxy server that manages SSL termination, routing, and policy enforcement before reaching Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS).
