Replicate introduces Agent Skills for optimizing work with AI models

Replicate has introduced Agent Skills, a set of Markdown-based instruction files designed to help coding assistants work more effectively with models hosted on the Replicate platform. The skills describe repeatable workflows for discovering models, comparing alternatives, running examples, and preparing prompts.

The release is useful because model catalogs can be difficult for agents to navigate without explicit operating rules. A coding assistant needs to know not only which model exists, but also which inputs it expects, how to evaluate options, when to call an API, and how to present results back to a developer.

By packaging these practices as reusable skills, Replicate is reducing the amount of manual guidance required in every session. Developers can give an agent a clearer execution path, while the agent can make fewer assumptions when selecting models or constructing inference calls.

The move also reflects a broader trend in AI tooling: general-purpose agents are becoming more reliable when they are paired with domain-specific instructions. For teams building with hosted models, this can turn a model marketplace from a browsing destination into a more practical development workflow.
