Startup Factory reaches a valuation of $1.5 billion for developing AI coding for enterprises.

A startup founded three years ago has raised $150 million in investments managed by Khosla Ventures.

Startup Factory, which develops AI agents for engineering teams, announced it has raised $150 million in funding, bringing the company's valuation to $1.5 billion. The funding round was led by Khosla Ventures, with participation from Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, and Blackstone. This was announced on Wednesday when Kate Rabois from Khosla Ventures joined the startup's board of directors.

The company's founder, Matan Greenberg, highlighted Factory's uniqueness in its ability to switch between different base models, such as Claude from Anthropic and solutions from the Chinese startup DeepSeek. This flexibility allows the company to compete with players like Cursor and Cognition, which also use multiple models for code generation.

Factory was founded in 2023 when Greenberg, then a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, met Sequoia partner Sean Maguire. Their shared academic interests prompted Maguire to convince Greenberg to leave school and launch a startup, after which Sequoia provided early-stage support.

Factory's success amid the rapid growth of the AI coding sector reflects the increasing interest of investors in technologies that automate software development processes. Startups capable of offering innovative solutions in a highly competitive environment have a greater chance of securing a significant position in the industry.
