Tesla launches robotaxi service in Dallas and Houston

Tesla has announced the expansion of its robotaxi service in Dallas and Houston, adding these cities to the already existing service in Austin.

Tesla has announced the launch of its robotaxi service in two key cities in Texas — Dallas and Houston. The company shared this news on social media, noting that "Robotaxi now starts in Dallas and Houston🤠". Accompanying the announcement was a 14-second video showcasing Tesla cars without drivers.

Now Tesla provides robotaxi services in three cities in Texas, including Austin, where the service started last year, and the first driverless rides began in January 2026. Since the launch in Austin, there have been 14 accidents involving robotaxi vehicles. In the San Francisco Bay Area, the company continues to offer a limited service with drivers.

Although the robotaxi market in the U.S. is actively developing, data from Robotaxi Tracker shows that there is only one registered vehicle in both Dallas and Houston, which is significantly less compared to 46 active vehicles in Austin. This may indicate Tesla's cautious approach to deploying its service in new regions.

The expansion of services to Dallas and Houston has the potential to impact Tesla's competitiveness in the autonomous vehicle segment. Given the unfinished tests and incidents in Austin, successful implementation in new cities will be an important test for the company and its technology, attracting attention from both consumers and regulators.
