The AI application Gizmo attracts 13 million users and $22 million in investments.

Gizmo, an AI-based learning platform, has achieved significant growth, increasing its user base to 13 million and securing $22 million in funding in a Series A round.

Since its launch in 2021, Gizmo, an AI-powered learning platform that transforms student notes into interactive study materials, has attracted over 13 million users from more than 120 countries. This is an impressive growth compared to fewer than 300,000 users reported in 2023. The increase in users has caught the attention of investors, as evidenced by recent successes.

The CEO of the company, Petros Christodoulou, stated that the funds will be used to expand the engineering and AI team, as well as to increase market presence in American colleges. Previously, Gizmo had only seven employees, but the company plans to grow its staff to 30 people.

The growth of Gizmo comes amid changes in student behavior. According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress in the U.S. in 2025, student academic performance has reached a historic low. Excessive screen time and reduced attention spans have been cited as factors contributing to this phenomenon. Competing with platforms like TikTok and YouTube, education has become particularly relevant.

Gizmo emphasizes gamification to engage learners. Features like leaderboards, credits for completing daily tasks, limits on incorrect answers, and the ability to challenge results with friends are designed to encourage users to return to learning. Other platforms, such as Anki, Quizlet, Nibble, and newcomers Yuno and Knowt, are also striving to redirect users' behavioral habits.

For a young app like Gizmo, achieving such high interest in just a few years is a significant accomplishment. While Yuno boasts a million downloads, Knowt already has over 7 million users. The Series A round was led by Shine Capital with participation from Ada Ventures, Seek Investments, GSV, and NFX, who previously led Gizmo's seed round, raising $3.5 million.
